The Connecticut Mastery Testing time is fast approaching! We have been working hard to ensure that our students are prepared for this challenge. The testing window is from Monday, March 4 through Friday, March 15. Make-up exams will begin on March 18.
During testing, keep in mind students should be:
Please be mindful that tests that are missed must be made up. However, if your child is not feeling well, it is best for them to make up the test during the make-up testing time. We want them to have every opportunity to do their best and we want to limit the exposure of illness to other students. Students should feel confident about the test. Please encourage them to do their best! This should be a time that students can “show what they know.”
Highville will be closed next week for vacation and the April vacation has been eliminated.
Please continue to check the school website, FB page and twitter for updates.
The school year has started on a great note and we are excited about new opportunities the upcoming year will bring. The administration, in a commitment to adhere to our open communication plan, is looking for your input. Over the course of the last few months, many parents and staff have approached me to voice their support for Highville Charter School to expand our program of studies through twelfth grade. I have made initial inquiries to the Conn. State Department of Education’s Charter School Office investigating our options for such an exciting opportunity.
We are seeking your input on this school expansion model. Please take a few minutes to answer these survey questions so we can assess our families’ interest in this new High School model. Please feel free to add additional comments in the comment area if the questions do not cover your concerns or input.
Thank you for your dedication to the students, staff & members off the Highville family.

For your information…we practiced our lockdown procedure today at 1pm. Our students did a wonderful job!
No words can express how deeply saddened we all feel for the families of Newtown, CT. On tomorrow morning we will hold an assembly to discuss the safety at our school and our safety procedures with our students. We will also hold safety drills throughout the week. Our priority is to help our students, parents, staff, and visitors feel safe when they enter Highville.
Good afternoon,
Early this morning, an elementary school in Newtown, CT suffered a horrible tragedy. The details are not totally clear but we do know that staff and students were injured in a school shooting. These tragic events force us to focus on our own policies and procedures surrounding these serious types of scenarios. It is extremely unfortunate that it takes a tragedy and loss for us to review our procedures but that is where we are as of today. I would like to remind everyone of the following safety procedures:
All doors will remain locked at all times. This includes the side doors, cafeteria doors and rooms who have their own outside access.
The “Before School” program will be stationed in the PK 4 room (USA). All parents will need to drop off at that door (located inside the front playground). All visitors need to enter through the front glass door (in front of Ms. Yvette’s desk) and sign in. There is a buzzer system and it will be activated.
Student drop off will be in the cafe between 7:40 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. Arrivals after 8:10 a.m. will have to come to the back of the building by Ms. Yvettes’ desk. During dismissal students will have to be picked up in the back of the building by Ms. Yvette’s desk. Parents will not be allowed in the building until dismissal time at 3:15 p.m. We thank you for your continued support and your adherence to our safety procedures.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the families of Newtown, CT during this most difficult time.
Mr. D.
