2013 Connecticut Mastery Test

The Connecticut Mastery Testing time is fast approaching! We have been working hard to ensure that our students are prepared for this challenge. The testing window is from Monday, March 4 through Friday, March 15. Make-up exams will begin on March 18.

During testing, keep in mind students should be:

Well rested.
Eating a hearty breakfast.
In their classrooms on time (8:15 a.m.). Any student that is tardy will not be allowed into the classroom. Students that arrive later than 8:45 a.m. will have to make up their test.
Without electronic devices. Please keep cell phones or other electronic devices at home. If they must have a cell phone, it must be in their book bag and turned OFF.

Please be mindful that tests that are missed must be made up. However, if your child is not feeling well, it is best for them to make up the test during the make-up testing time. We want them to have every opportunity to do their best and we want to limit the exposure of illness to other students. Students should feel confident about the test. Please encourage them to do their best! This should be a time that students can “show what they know.”

Unfortunately, as a result of the number taken days off so far this year the April vacation is in jeopardy of being eliminated.

To our Highville families:

Due to the impending snow storm school will be cancelled for tomorrow, February 8, 2013.

The news weather teams are predicting the storm will peak around 1pm after snowing all morning. This will create a problem for the districts providing transportation to our school at 1:15pm as well as their own district’s schools that will most likely dismiss earlier.

We ask that you understand and remain patient with us as we continue to keep the education as well as the safety of our students first. Thank you for your continued support.

The school year has started on a great note and we are excited about new opportunities the upcoming year will bring. The administration, in a commitment to adhere to our open communication plan, is looking for your input. Over the course of the last few months, many parents and staff have approached me to voice their support for Highville Charter School to expand our program of studies through twelfth grade. I have made initial inquiries to the Conn. State Department of Education’s Charter School Office investigating our options for such an exciting opportunity.

We are seeking your input on this school expansion model.
