Associate Principal Grades PK-4

Highville Charter School District is seeking a highly qualified candidate to serve as an Associate Principal for our grades PK – 4.  Highville School District currently includes Highville Charter School (Grades PK-8) and Highville Change Academy (Grades 9-12).  This is a full time position, effective July 1, 2017.  Highville has enrolled 502 students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 for the 2016-17 school year.  This leadership position will report directly to the Principal who oversees the academic programs of the two schools (all grades PK-12).  Highville is a non-profit, State of Connecticut independent charter school that is located in New Haven, CT and serves students and families in the Greater New Haven area.  In addition to serving the Greater New Haven area, Highville also serves several communities outside of New Haven County.

The Highville Board of Directors and the Executive Director seek an energetic, dynamic, inspirational student-centered educational leader who is committed to long term growth and who will continue to develop academic excellence.  The successful candidate will possess a high level of instructional expertise with the skills and ambition to be a part of a motivated staff and community to make a lasting difference in the lives of students.  All candidates must possess or meet Connecticut certification requirements as a school administrator.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The associate principal will lead and manage all academic functions of grades PK-4 at Highville Charter. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Drive levels of student achievement and learning through rigorous and engaging classes in a positive learning environment, in adherence with the school’s objectives and learner expectations, with a focus global citizenship and access to a rich and high quality offering in foreign language, arts, and music
  • Maintain levels of staff achievement through a shared instructional vision that includes skillful instruction, high expectations for students, collaborative planning and inquiry, and the systematic use of data to guide learning and drive instruction, curriculum, and professional development
  • Serve as a liaison to parents and facilitate parent education and involvement, including reinforcing the need for parents to support the school’s high academic expectations;
  • Serve as a member of school leadership team
  • Serve as one of the schools testing coordinator
  • Assist principal and interventionists in implementing policies and procedures for student dress code, discipline, and other policies related to maintaining a positive school culture of learning and achievement
  • Undertake administrative and instructional duties as the principal may assign
  • Agreement with the academic goals and philosophy of the charter school
  • Knowledge of current educational research and issues
  • Demonstrated effective collaboration and communication skills
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving, planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated effective training and presentation skills
  • Ability to structure own time and manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge and experience in curriculum development and implementation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must possess successful experience as a certified teacher
  • Possess  the appropriate CT Intermediate Administrative & Supervisor certification (092)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in instruction, curriculum, and assessment that promotes continual improvement of student learning and professional development of staff
  • Experience with and knowledge of data-driven instruction and decision making
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills in supporting high student outcomes and educational excellence
  • Brings strong and collaborative leadership with an honest, transparent, and inclusive style
  • Experience in the supervision and evaluation of staff and proven leadership in the areas of curriculum, student achievement, assessments, and a positive school climate
  • Ability to solve problems, use common sense and act as a team player who leads by example

Salary range is $90,000 – $100,000 commensurate with experience; excellent benefits.
